Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious and growing global health threat. The loss of effective antimicrobials is reducing our ability to protect Canadians from infectious diseases, with profound impacts on our healthcare system, global trade, agriculture, environment and health sectors. One effective response to AMR is conserving the effectiveness of existing antibiotic and antifungal treatments through antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).
The Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) Team is an inter-professional team comprised of leadership, clinical, operations, and research members. We use a collaborative evidence-informed approach to transform the way antibiotics are prescribed and used in clinical practice, while enhancing our research and education scope. Our Mission is to optimize antimicrobial use in innovative ways and pursue the best possible clinical outcomes for our patients to “ensure patients receive the right antibiotics…when they need them”.
